Skate Brighton - Virtual Audiovisual Gallery - 2022

This project, focusing on Brighton's local skate jam community, is an experimentation with the form of documentary storytelling. Rather than a linear 'film', I have created an 'audiovisual gallery', which enables the user to actively participate in the creation of the film in real time.

I wanted to create a sense of the space, giving the audience an opportunity to immerse themselves in the soundscape. I separated the sound from the audio, and and gave the audience control over manipulating the visuals themselves.

As you listen to the soundscape, the footage in each window will play on a loop. The audience are free to explore as they please - pausing, rewinding or fast-forwarding, as they do so, creating unique spontaneous synchronicities that occur between the sound and the image as the skaters glide between the windows.
