They call this a 'ceasefire', but we refuse to call it peace: Brighton marches for Gaza 12 Oct 2025

Project type

Video

Date

October 2025

Location

Brighton, UK

Video I produced for the Brighton and Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign, documenting the protest that took place in Brighton following the announcement of a ceasefire on 12th October 2025.

Months on, as it appears to be a "ceasefire" in name only, the situation remains critically urgent. The UK’s role in this crisis is deeply complicit: it continues to manufacture and supply arms to Israel, while providing surveillance services that enable further violence. This support persists despite the UN’s designation of genocide and the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Israel’s prime minister on charges of crimes against humanity.

In the edit, I melded together fragments of speeches from the march’s closing rally into a urgent, cohesive narrative. On top of the content of the speeches, I was particularly moved by the sonic character of these recordings, which were affected by feedback from the loudspeaker system. Rather than being just a noise artefact to eradicate, I felt that this lent a particular emotional potency to the audio, so I wanted to use this as a creative foundation in the sound design rather than try to eradicate it. I created a rack delay and reverb, and then carefully automated sending the audio from the speeches to this effects chain to enhance the feeling of desolation.

I also created original bespoke music for this video, underscoring the gravity and grief embedded in the struggle for Palestinian liberation.

I'd love to do more of this kind of work. If you have a need for a video to communicate issues surrounding human rights and social justice, please get in touch!
