Organic Jam: A Participatory Film - 2019

An ethnographic film that I devised, shot and edited for my Ethnomusicology MA. The film follows members of a community music organisation, myself included, as we navigate the process of learning to make and record music together. My intention was to use ‘film as a mode of inquiry’ to explore the experiences of the participants at the workshops. Some of the group had disabilities and, conscious that this is a group that is often underrepresented and marginalised, I wanted to ensure that the inevitably intrusive process of filming would be of benefit to them. Hence, this is a participatory film, created in consultation with those that appear on-screen.
